The tooth count is how many positions the ratchet mechanism has in one full turn. 72 teeth means the handle only needs to swing 5° (360 ÷ 72) to click onto the next tooth.
Why it matters
In a tight engine bay you often can't swing a wrench far. A smaller swing arc means you can keep turning a fastener where a coarse ratchet would jam. Teng's 72-teeth mechanism appears across our ratchets and ratcheting combination wrenches.
Serviceable by design
Teng ratchets are serviceable instruments — repair kits are available, so a worn mechanism can be replaced instead of scrapping the tool. See our spare parts & repair kits articles, and the lifetime warranty policy.
